God bless Dontre Wilson. A freshman, sans helmet, swinging for the fences against hated scUM. And while we're at it, kudos to Marcus Hall for the double bird on the way out. Nice. Having said this, was it just me or did it seem lie TOSU was outplayed and outcoached by hated scUM? Where were these plays for the other 11 games that U of M played? Check out any MGoBlog post. Screens and options have been there for the taking all year. Yet, no. Borges-ball rams it up between the tackles and gets stuffed. Reminiscent of the Jim Bollman era at TOSU. Suddenly, v. TOSU, he runs the shit that the Meechy fan base has been clamoring for all year and guess what? He comes close to dropping the Bucks. As for going for two: what else could they do? Your #1 kicker is injured and you're going to play for OT with TOSU? Douche? No way. I'm no Brady Hoke fan but this was the right call. The play? meh. But you had to go for two. Meechy exposed the TOSU defense for what it is: an injury depleted sub-par linebacker corps and an extremely questionable soft-zone secondary. Sparty was watching. I'm shitting bricks. Go Bucks.
Odd that Michigan's bigger weakness was the defense. For the whole season, Michigan was woeful on Offense except against CMU and ND. Goal line stand to beat Akron, Barely beat UConn. Two games this season with the worst rushing yards in the history of Michigan. IN THE HISTORY OF MICHIGAN. Blame youth on the O-line? Sure. Play calling? sure. Where did this Michigan team come from? OSU not so good? Rivalry game high? Borges listening to bloggers? brady Hoke finally giving up the MANBALL directive? Finally putting in the talented freshmen instead of hesitant Toussaint? Whatever it was, it made for a great game. And if OSU is good then,Michigan can play with anyone. How they look in the bowl game will be telling. Don't know about going for two at home generally, but I liked the call. OT is bullshit. Go for the win in regulation. Now that is MANBAWL.
Word. It was like Borges suddenly read all the blog posts on MGoBlog and thought, 'hey. yeeeaaaahh. That's it. When they put 8 in the box and play 10 yards off my receivers I could throw bubble screens and slants and, and, and....I could maybe get the edge. With speed! Holy shit! Wait, I think we have some fast guys!" Look for Little Brother to come after the safeties with seam routes and play action and attack the corners with sneaky screens. TOSU fans already soiling themselves all over the blogs about how they should fire Fickell and the DBags coach. Did you know that TOSU has co-Defensive Coordinators? Fickell and one of Urban's guys. They have "different philosophies". How's that working out? Tell you what, though. I think Meechy just didn't figure out how to use the guys they had this year until the TOSU game. And they got a couple guys back from injuries. And, blammo, yeah, suddenly they were really good. DGardner made a lot of really good throws and smart plays and he was hurt most of the game. Meechy defense wasn't weak, either. TOSU is very hard to stop with Braxton and El Guapo. They're gonna get some points. It was great game. Meechy fans should be feeling better about B Hoke now. Loved the go or 2. Turned the game into an instant classic.
